9th Conference of the European Family Therapy Association
From Origins to Originality in Family Therapy and Systemic Practice
In these turbulent times, we experience families continuously changing in form, roles, relations and function in an effort to respond creatively to new cultural and socio-economic conditions. New ways are explored by couples in building a relationship and a future together, by generations, cultures or groups in how they connect and differentiate, by societal institutions in how they ‘care’.
How do we see today these phenomena through our practice, or new research? In what ways are the physical, socioeconomic, or cultural-political contingencies integrated into the therapeutic process as significant factors in the formation of pathology and well-being at all system-levels of human existence?
What do we perceive as new challenges and how do we prioritise according to urgency? What problem situations seem to fade away to make space for new, yet undefined growth triggers? How do we deal with intensified mobility of populations, questioned identities and securities requiring redefinitions, and value hierarchies put to the test?
Our conference is an invitation to reflect and respond with originality to these challenges by sharing our work and wisdom, enriching the perspectives on family and systemic therapy and practice, with resources drawn from our origins.
