The Hellenic Thalassemia Association (ESTHA) in collaboration with the “PIGI ZOIS” Association for the Promotion of Voluntary Blood Donation & Friends of People with Mediterranean Anemia, and the Region of Central Macedonia are co-organizing a day of information and celebration on blood donation.

MEETING REGARDING VOLUNTARY BLOOD DONATION

The day will start with an informative meeting by ESTHA, which will include the latest updates in blood donation and transfusion, a discussion regarding blood donation in Greece, and an intuitive approach to the management of blood and the therapy of patients.

6TH AWARD CEREMONY OF VOLUNTEER BLOOD DONORS OF THE “PIGI ZOIS” ASSOCIATION

In the afternoon the 6^th Award Ceremony of Volunteer Blood Donors from the “PIGI ZOIS” association will take place.

“PIGI ZOIS” is a voluntary non-governmental organization, that has for 25 years been involved in the promotion of voluntary blood donation, especially for the 300 people with Mediterranean Anemia in the city of Thessaloniki, who need about 2 units of blood every 15 days. The main action of the association is the coordination of 3000 blood donors, recorded in their list, for voluntary blood donation to people with Mediterranean Anemia.

So, with this event, they are honoring all the volunteers and rewarding 78 of them, who have completed more than 40 blood donations over the last 25 years.

SYMVOLI will be there to support the important work of ESTHA and PIGI ZOIS once again. Greece’s blood needs are about 650,000 units every year. The only source of blood is the citizens of this country. One time is not enough. Events like this bring forward and remind the constant need for blood donations.
