4th Thessaloniki International Media Summer Academy 2020

UPDATE: Due to the current circumstances of COVID19 pandemic, THISAM will take place online on the following final dates: 24th-27th of August 2020.

Since 2018 Thessaloniki International Media Summer Academy has been a point of reference for professionals, experts, and participants from all over the world in a week dedicated to journalism, media and communication. SYMVOLI has -from the very beginning- been a supporter of this initiative, offering its organizational services and experience for a project established by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and to its international partners: Jean Monnet Chair for European Integration Journalism along with Deutsche Welle Akademie (DW Akademie), Center for Media and Information Literacy at Temple University USA, University of Zagreb Croatia, University of Novi-Sad Serbia, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Hallym University Korea, Digital Communication Network Southeast Europe Hub and Proof organization.

The topic of this year’s Summer Academy will be New Trends in Media and Journalism: “Global Media models and emerging technology trends – AI, VR, Verification”. The participants will have the privilege to attend lectures and workshops of globally well-known professionals in the fields of media and communication. Because of the ongoing covid-19 situation, this year’s organization will be conducted partially on-site, at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, and partially online. In that way it will maintain its international status by allowing participants who cannot travel to still be able to attend the School, while at the same time providing an onsite training experience for local participants and ensuring the safety of everyone involved. Additionally to that, the organizing committee of THISAM will initiate for the first time this year an online colloquium/one day international conference on 28th of August 2020, where selected presentations with a special emphasis upon this year’s theme will be held.

Either onsite or online, Thessaloniki International Media Summer Academy proves that the power of knowledge is proven stronger than any pandemic!
